Well, it works

Electric vehicles will never truly take off in a market without the infrastructure to support them. By that, we mean chargers—and lots of them.

Still, there are ways to make using one viable regardless of whether chargers to the public or not. One of them, apparently, is to modify your EV to run on gasoline—which is exactly what the Warped Perception YouTube channel did.

“Wait, what?”

You read that right. The best part of this experiment is that this Tesla is still technically an electric vehicle—just one that runs on gasoline. You see, what’s been done here is that the unit has been fitted with a gas-powered generator that charges the battery. Range anxiety solved!

To prove the vehicle’s capability, our YouTuber/engineer even embarked on a 2,900km road trip. The car ran alright, but not without its fair share of issues. The biggest one is that the generator couldn’t keep up with how fast the battery would drain, which meant the Tesla would have to stop every now and then to fill up.

But hey, it’s an EV that doesn’t need a charger! You can watch the experiment in its entirety in the video above.
