The Mitsubishi Pajero truly is something special. It’s easily one of the most iconic nameplates in the Japanese carmaker’s lineup alongside the legendary Lancer.
Admittedly, however, there are certain iterations of the Pajero that are a bit more special than most, just like the Lancer. You guessed it—we’re talking about the Evolution models. This feels a bit random today, don’t you think? Well, not really, as there’s a 1997 Mitsubishi Pajero Evolution that’s currently up for bids on CollectingCars.com and it just caught our attention.

It’s as rare as that other Pajero Evo that made us wonder if we actually needed two kidneys. Frankly, we’re having the same thoughts right now. This is also a homologation special of the most successful Dakar rally car ever built, having nabbed 12 wins from 1985 to 2007 with a 1-2-3 finish in 1998.
This Pajero looks like it’s in mint condition as well despite having 180,181km on the odometer. It boasts a Scotia White finish on the outside and a grey-laden cabin fitted with Recaro seats and a Bosch Rotterdam stereo on the inside. Under the hood is a 3.5-liter V6 MIVEC engine factory rated at 276hp and mated to a five-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels.

The 4x4 sits on 16-inch white alloy wheels shod in Yokohama Geolander A/T tires.
The unit was supposedly stored in a garage when unused, but it has recently been serviced and equipped with a new timing belt in July 2022.
Just like the other legendary Mitsubishi we mentioned earlier, Pajeros really can fetch quite a bit at auctions, let alone rare versions like this. As of this writing, the bid for this 1997 Pajero Evo is at £22,140, or about P1.4 million. Think it’ll be worth the price tag? If we had that much money to spare—with extra for shipping, of course—we’d probably place a bid.
