As typhoon Ondoy exited the Philippines, horrifying images of the extent of its damages in Metro Manila began surfacing on the social-networking site Facebook. We culled a dozen photographs of submerged and muddied vehicles from the accounts of various Facebook friends and colleagues. As some of these photos had been shared and passed around so many times, we couldn't fully ascertain the identities of the photographers who had taken them. What we did was simply mention the names of the individuals from whose Facebook profiles we grabbed these images.
