It’s been a while since we first laid our eyes on the new Mitsubishi L300. Now, after several months of waiting, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines (MMPC) has officially launched its revived icon in the local market.
“The L300 is one of our products that we are very proud of. Its legacy roots from the years of dependable quality performance and affordable cost of ownership that the L300 provides the market,” says Alvin Dalida, MMPC first vice president for sales and marketing. “We are very excited for the return of the trusted workhorse as we know that the L300 will once again play a vital role as a reliable vehicle for various transportation requirements. The improved features and fuel efficiency will, without a doubt, be one of the key highlights of this unit that will help drive the Filipino business forward.”
At first glance, you might not even realize you’re looking at a new model. But if you stare closely enough, you might notice that the front grille has been slightly redesigned and plastered with more chrome. One more change you might see here is the higher cabin—slightly elevated by 100mm, to be exact. Other than that, there’s nothing much that’s changed on the exterior.
The inside is basically the same as well, except for the digital odometer that can now be found on the gauge cluster. The rest—including the tiller and the dash—look as bare and rugged as ever. Passengers will be glad to know the rear cabin has A/C vents.
The biggest change here, as it was mentioned way back, is the engine. The new L300 now packs a Euro 4-compliant 2.2-liter CRDi intercooler turbo unit that allows the van to stay true to its promise and produce 40% more torque and power than the outgoing model. This engine is mated to a five-speed manual transmission and produces a maximum of 98hp and 200Nm of torque.
