Another operator has joined the country’s shift to modernized PUVs.
Byahe is a new PUV operator that hopes to bring safe and convenient commuting to the Filipino public. The company recently launched 21 new modern jeepneys equipped with cashless capabilities in the Province of Pampanga, and plans to expand its reach to Metro Manila by February 2021.
The company is led by a familiar face, too—one that’s been a mainstay in the local transport scene for the past several years: Former Grab Philippines head Brian Cu. In a statement, Byahe co-founder Cu said the company was founded to professionalize the jeepney service.
“Byahe was born out of a dream and a vision: to pursue PUV modernization by professionalizing the services of jeepney drivers, and to finally make commuting more convenient, safer, and more affordable for the riding public,” Cu explained.
In line with this goal, the service is in full compliance with Department of Transportation (DOTr) and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) guidelines, and utilizes a modernized fleet management system that hopes to end the “archaic practice that creates traffic congestion and leaves a huge carbon footprint.”
“This will ultimately benefit the commuting public. It will promote efficiency, convenience, and safety, as commuters will be able to organize their schedule and be assured of on-time transportation to and from their desired destinations,” Cu said, adding that drivers will receive stable income through the service, too.
Now, 21 units isn’t much in the grand scheme of things, but it’s a start. Are you excited for when Byahe makes its way to Metro Manila next month?
